Team night out at the cricket

03 July 2015 | OneGTM

‘We’ve got you a ticket to watch the cricket on Wednesday, Ben’, I was told on Sunday night.

‘Great, thanks I look forward to it!’ was my response; however this was not entirely true as my interest in cricket is non-existent.

It was 36°C in London on Wednesday, the hottest July day on record. I of course was dressed inappropriately in a thick polo shirt and black trousers, Tim sported a t-shirt and Flip Flops – a wiser choice.

We finished work and headed down to Vauxhall, where the Oval is based. Pimms was the drink of choice for an odd ‘pre drinks’ on the underground – where we were recipients of some strange looks. I was told our oneGTM team consisted of two very talented cricketers, Olivia and Liz, although neither had been to the oval before, and when we were there neither seemed to know what was going on any more than I did!

It was a slow start to the cricket, so slow in fact I didn’t actually know it had started, I had to get Sarah to confirm. Gloucestershire scored 154 for 5 in the first innings, which I believe is the equivalent of the first half in football terms. But to be honest, we were not really focussed on the cricket; we were too busy tucking into our M & S picnic, a chicken and bacon sandwich and some cream cakes, I couldn’t complain!

Yet, the second half was actually exciting, which is not something I thought I’d ever say about cricket. It all came down to the last bowl of the game, the Surrey batsman had to hit a six in order for them to win. The crowd chanted ‘six, six, six’, I thought this was somewhat optimistic, but no! The ball was smashed into the stands and surrey won the match. On the way out Tim said he thought it was a fix, how cynical?

All in all, it really was a great night out with the team to mark the 3 day anniversary of my internship. Many more nights like this to come please!

Please excuse my ‘teapot’ pose in the picture, I’m not sure why that happened.
