Infographics

When we go about our daily business of searching the internet, making online purchases, connecting with friends via social media, it is the unsung hero; the data centre that makes all this possible.

We liked the recent infographic commissioned by Emerson Power “2011 State of the Data Centre” as it really brought home the growing importance of datacenters.

You can download the infographic here.

Just to give you a taste of the growing dependency on data centres this year alone we will create 1.2 trillion gigabytes of data equivalent to 75 billion 16GB iPods, that’s more than enough for every person on earth to own 10 iPods. With this amount of data, the cloud is becoming the infrastructure behind much of what we do every day from buying train tickets on our journey to work, to streaming TV at home in the evening. Every hour, enough information is consumed by internet traffic to fill 7 million DVDs. Side by side this would scale Mount Everest 95 times.
