A lower carbon future for the UK

22 October 2018 | Phil Brown

Our client, Centrica Business Solutions, has published a new report pointing the way to a lower carbon future for the UK. The Powering Sustainability Report reveals how innovative, distributed energy technologies could help the UK meet its carbon reduction commitments, as well as delivering significant benefits for UK businesses.

As the recent landmark report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlighted, dramatically reducing carbon emissions is vital if the world is to avoid the most harmful impacts of climate change.  The UK government has set ambitious targets of reducing carbon emissions by 57% by 2030 and 80% by 2050, and businesses have an important role to play if these targets are to be met.

The Powering Sustainability report focuses on the potential of new distributed energy technologies to deliver benefits to both businesses and the wider society. The report reveals that in the Industry, Health and Hospitality & Leisure sectors alone, distributed energy solutions could deliver cumulative savings of 137MtCO₂e through to 2030; the equivalent to annual emissions of 43 million homes. The report also shows how these technologies can help deliver long-term term competitive advantages for UK businesses, enabling them to improve operational efficiency, increase resilience and build a more sustainable business model.

Demonstrating their commitment to reducing carbon emissions, this report was also heavily featured at the Business Green Leaders Summit in London; with Centrica being the headline sponsor.

Due to the importance of this report we were pleased to have the opportunity to support the launch by developing a range of communications assets. Download the full report here to understand why businesses need to take action and the steps to becoming a more sustainable business.
